Privacy Policy

Me and Masjid ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile application published by JAKEX CORPORATION PRIVATE LIMITED (JAKEX Group). It helps Muslims find nearby masjids, keep their prayers consistent through check-ins and streaks, receive prayer-time reminders and Qibla direction, read and listen to the Quran, and connect with their masjid community.

We designed the app to collect as little as possible and to keep your activity private by default. The app records attendance and engagement only — it does not measure sincerity, faith, or religious standing. This policy explains what we collect, why, how it is shared, and the choices you have.

Account information. You can explore masjids and the Quran as a guest, without an account. To check in, build streaks, or connect with friends, you sign in by verifying your phone number over WhatsApp — we send a one-time code to your WhatsApp and you enter it in the app. When you sign in, we store your name, your verified phone number, and optionally a profile photo. We use this to create your account, recognise you to friends you connect with, and secure your data.

Location. With your permission, we use your device location to show masjids near you, calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction, and verify you are at a masjid when you check in. If you choose to enable the optional "Auto-log my masjid visits" feature, we use background location (geofencing) to notice when you arrive at a masjid during a prayer window and offer to log a check-in — even when the app is closed. We only check whether you are near a masjid; we do not track or record your movements or build a location history. Background location is off by default and you can turn it off at any time.

Prayer and attendance activity. We store the check-ins and prayers you log (the masjid, prayer, date, and whether it was at a masjid or at home) to power your streaks, history, and rewards.

Quran activity. We store your reading and listening progress, bookmarks, last-read position, and preferences (translation language, reciter) so you can continue where you left off and earn related rewards.

Contacts (optional). If you choose to find friends from your contacts, we read your contacts on your device and send only hashed phone numbers to our servers (never the raw numbers) to match people who are already on the app. These hashes are stored privately on our servers and are never readable by other users. We do not store your contacts' names, numbers, or address book. This feature is optional and only runs when you start it.

Community content. Masjid managers can post announcements and events, and members can RSVP or indicate they are coming to a prayer. This content is visible to that masjid's community.

Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous usage data — such as which screens are opened and which features are used — to understand how the app is used and improve it. These events do not include your name, phone number, or the content of your activity.

Device & notifications. To deliver prayer-time and arrival reminders, the app schedules notifications on your device. Standard technical information (such as device type and app version) may be processed by our infrastructure providers to operate the service.

• Show nearby masjids, prayer times, and Qibla direction.
• Record your check-ins and prayers and calculate your streaks, history, memberships, and badges.
• Send prayer-time reminders and, if enabled, masjid-arrival suggestions.
• Let you connect with friends and participate in your masjid's community.
• Save your Quran reading progress and preferences.
• Understand usage through anonymous analytics and improve the app.
• Maintain security and prevent abuse.

Your attendance and prayer activity is private to you by default. You control what, if anything, is shared with friends or listed in a masjid's member list. Permissions such as location, contacts, and notifications are always requested in context, are optional, and can be changed at any time in your device settings.

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to run the app:

• With other users you choose — for example, friends you connect with can see your name, photo, badges, and masjid memberships; if you opt in, your name may appear in a masjid's member list.
• Service providers — we use Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, cloud functions, analytics) and the WhatsApp Business Platform (for phone verification login). These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.
• Legal — where required by law or to protect rights and safety.

Aggregate, non-identifying figures (such as a masjid's total check-in count) may be shown publicly, but never anyone's individual prayer records.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Some preferences and activity (such as bookmarks and reading progress) are also stored locally on your device. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and associated records from our active systems, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations.

• Turn location, background location, contacts, and notification permissions on or off at any time in your device settings.
• Edit your profile and control what is shared with others.
• Delete individual check-ins, or delete your account.
• Request access to or deletion of your personal data by contacting us (see below). Depending on your region, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or India's DPDP Act.

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections, authentication, and access-controlled databases — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
